Everyone knows a good deal when they see one, but how about waiting for a good deal? January and February are noted for certain things that go on sale and this year is no different. The cold winter months release some great deals but you need to know what to buy and what to wait for.
Fitness Equipment - January and February are great months to take advantage of the “new year resolutions” sale on discounted fitness equipment, in fact deals and discounts almost double during January and February.
Winter Clothing and Winter Footwear – During the month of January you’ll see some discounts on winter wear but if you can wait until February, you’ll really save. During February stores discount even further. The selection isn’t as great and you’ll have to shop around, but the sale is worth it. Same goes for winter foot wear, but really, the best deal for winter foot wear is in the middle of summer. During the summer months, shop outlet stores for winter footwear. Often you can find $250 boots for a fraction of the price. In an outlet store you have to beware of “outlet store” clothing lines and clothes actually from the retail store, but footwear you don’t have to worry – they make only one line. Check out Eddie Bauer, REI, Macy’s and JC Penney for discounted winter wear in February.
Home Furniture – Furniture companies release their 2014 collections in January and stores want to clear their floors for their new collections, so now is the time to buy. This applies to the big chain stores like Pottery Barn and local independent stores. The biggest discounts will happen on Monday, February 17, 2014.
Electronics – The Consumer Electronics Show is held every January in Las Vegas. So much like furniture stores want to clear out old inventory to make room for the latest HDTV’s, surround sound, DVD players, computers, laptops and more.
Christmas Goods – Everyone sees the bins full of old Christmas wrapping, decorations and light. Well at 75% off, stop and pick some up, store it, and use it next Christmas 2014.
Food - February is National Canned Food Month, National Hot Breakfast Month and Heart Healthy Month. You will see sales that relate to all of this. While fresh is always best, canned vegetables are still a healthy serving of vegetables. Look for sales on oatmeal, grits, and waffles and cook your loved ones a hot breakfast!
Things not to buy in February: Well…if you’re going for the creative and unusual gift for Valentine’s Day you can stay away from jewelry, flowers and perfume. All three will be marked “on sale” but often the price is just inflated from an older price or suggested retail price. The real sale for jewelry, flowers and perfume happens right after Valentine’s Day. Go figure.
Outdoor Furniture – You might want to wait until they go on sale on Memorial Day weekend. Besides, it’s way too cold to sit out on your deck anyway.
Digital Cameras – The best time to buy a digital camera is in June or July. Companies release their new lines of cameras in January and February. So waiting a few months for a good deal may be worth it. Although it has been said the best time to buy a digital camera is when you need one.
