Massena's girls hockey squad fell to the Canton Golden Bears at their home ice on Friday, Jan. 24.
Bailey Dillabough put the Lady Raiders to a 1 – 0 lead just under 10 minutes into the opening marker on a power play. But, Canton would win the game within the first two minutes of the following stanza.
After 30 seconds on the ice, Kelli Couglar tied the game on a play set up by Blake Orosz. Just 47 seconds later, Orosz, who finished the game with two goals and an assist, banked the eventual game-winner. The game stayed at an offensive stalemate for almost 18 minutes, broken on a powerplay by Canton's Margaret Troiano, assisted by Orosz. With 3:45 to go in the game, Orosz closed the scoreboard, assisted by Natalie Giglio.
Massena netminder Maddi Dillabough finished the game with 23 saves. Elizabeth Burke kept 22 pucks away from Canton's net.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Tri-Town Arena in Brasher Falls, the Lady Raiders shutout the St. Lawrence Central Larries.
Bailey Dillabough connected with the only goal Massena would need 1:26 into the game. Shannon Casey notched the insurance goal 4:18 later.
Raechel Davis and Katie MacCuaig later closed the scoreboard with a goal apiece.
Maddi Dillabough kept 16 shots at bay for Massena. Holly Zeldenrust blocked 28 pucks for the Larries.
Massena's boys hockey contingent finished the regular season at the top of their division, taking down the Norwood-Norfolk 5 – 3 on the Flyers' home ice.
Jordan Robert scored twice for Massena. Dylan Stone, Patrick Manning and Wyatt Wilmhurst added one goal each. For N-N, Zeb Brown connected on a penalty shot; Kayden Pickering and Tristan Brown tallied one goal apiece.
Massena will next play a home game against Potsdam on Saturday, Feb. 1.
