Wolves Beat Alexandria Glens 3 – 2

The Akwesasne Wolves took a narrow 3 – 2 victory over the Alexandria Glens on Saturday, Jan. 18 in front of 130 fans at Anowarakowa Arena.

Hayden Mancini led the Wolves offense with a pair of goals.

Alexandria started with an early 1 – 0 lead. But the Wolves were able to regain control before the first buzzer.

Jeffrey Rhainds scored the Glens first marker at 6:24, assisted by Michel Lefebvre and Wade Kropp. Hayden Mancini put the Wolves back on top, scoring back-to-back goals at 10:46. The first was on a play set up by Stevie Ray Adams and Dom Coyle, the second unassisted.

Following a scoreless middle stanza, Oakley Thomas took a pass from Hiio Herne and turned it into the game-winning goal at 12:16. Alexandria’s Maxime St-Georges closed the scoreboard at 15:28, the assist came from Leo MacLean.

Cam Turcotte kept 29 shots out of the Akwesasne net, Brett Ayers worked the Alexandria crease for 32 saves.

The Wolves have fallen to fourth place in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League Rideau-St. Lawrence Division. They stand at an 18 – 13 record and 37 points. The Winchester Hawks surpassed them after going up to a 19 – 13 record with 40 points.

Akwesasne faced the Athens Aeros on Sunday, Jan. 20, a write-up of which will appear in the next edition of Indian Time. They will face the Char-Lan Rebels on their opponent’s home ice on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. The Wolves will return to Anowarakowa to take on the Casselman Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
