A Voice from the Eastern Door
Falling behind 33-17 at halftime, the Salmon River girl's basketball team could not bounce back last Friday, falling 66-40, to Canton at home.
Late in the second quarter the Lady Shamrocks had a power surge but Canton forced some turnovers and then capitalized on the Lady Shamrocks mistakes to pull farther ahead.
The Lady Shamrocks played solid defense and were successful in slowing down some of the Golden Bears offensive plays.
Taylor Francis paced the Salmon offense with 15 points including a shot beyond the arc. teammate Jaiden Mitchell netted nine points including a three pointer. Jocelyn Mitchell tossed through six points while Kwiio King and Tsiotenhariio Herne added four points apiece. Brittany Brooks rounded out the Salmon River score sheet with two points.
"We played tough defense and we were able to slow Canton down and force them to redirect or change some of their plays. Canton is a powerhouse and has been beating teams by a lot more than they beat us. I think the girls did well."
