F.A. Beats Lady Raiders on the Court

A Tuesday, Jan. 7 contest between Massena's Lady Raiders and the Lady Huskies of Franklin Academy ended in a 51 – 29 victory for the green-clad contingent.

The Huskies dominated all four quarters, outscoring the Raiders 12 – 6 by the end of eight minutes, and leading 27 – 14 at the half. Both sides upped their defensive game in the third stanza, with Massena holding F.A. to nine points and tossing in seven of their own. But Malone regained their momentum in the fourth marker, outscoring Massena 15 – 8, for the final 51 – 29 tally.

The Lady Raider offense was led by Samanntha Villnave with eight points, eight boards and three blocks; Jessica Rode had four points, pulled down 10 caroms, and added two blocks, a steal and an assist. Stephanie McKeel scored seven points and added two rebounds. Devin Kelly contributed five points, four rebounds, two assists and stole the ball once. Maeve Curran shot three points and garnered four rebounds, three steals, an assist and one block. Jaylee Jones notched two each of points, rebounds and steals.

F.A. were headed up by Rachel Lamica with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals; Meghan O'Connor threw nine points, pulled four caroms and stole twice. Erin McDonald pitched in 12 points, four boards and two steals. Emily Marshall contributed six points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal. Taylor Poirer garnered six points, six boards, four steals and an assist. Janelle Heden added two each in points, caroms and assists.

Malone remains unbeaten with a 9 – 0 record and stands at the top spot in their division, Massena has a 3 – 7 record and holds the sixth-place spot. The Lady Raiders will meet the Salmon River Shamrocks on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in Fort Covington, they will return to Massena to face the Canton Golden Bears on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
