A Voice from the Eastern Door

To Memphis and Back Performs at Snye Rec

Last Wednesday night, January 8th, the Snye Recreation was packed with Elvis fans young and old. The younger crowd, who may not have known the music of Elvis Presley, sure know it now. And TJ and the band "To Memphis and Back" surely made them fans.

The event was a benefit to raise money for the Akwesasne Winter Carnival, which the Snye Recreation is putting on this year. Kudos to the Snye Rec for coming up with such an awesome idea as January 8th was Elvis's birthday, which made it the perfect evening for the show.

The Rec was decorated perfect for the occasion with life-size cutouts of Elvis and music notes adorning the walls. If you haven't seen TJ Jackson you are missing out, and now that there's a band, the show is even better. They performed dozens of songs, TJ changed outfits a couple of times and threw scarfs and teddy bears out to the fans. The concert was complete with a stage and light show.

The band has been rehearsing for about a year now and it certainly paid off. This concert was only their second as a band and they are hoping this kicks off a slew of concerts. They are hoping to get more gigs and they are "ready to hit the road."

If you missed the Snye Rec show shame on you, but you are in luck. To Memphis and Back have a concert lined up for February 22nd at 7:30pm at St. Joseph's Auditorium. It is a show to benefit the Cornwall Catholic Secondary Schools Mission Group who are raising funds for travel expenses. Tickets are available at Scotia Bank and if you buy them there, they will donate some money to the cause as well.
