A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Wednesday, December 5, 2013 the St. Regis Mohawk School's cafeteria held over 300 children, elves, Santa and Mrs. Claus for Cookies and Crafts. The Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment once again organized an incredible evening of activities for parents and their children to enjoy. The Coalition's members had various tables set up throughout the cafeteria for crafts and children and their parents could decorate sugar cookies, make stuffed teddy bears, Christmas cards, miniature Christmas trees, weave a bracelet and so much more. For two fun filled hours children and their parents had a choice of crafts to make as they rotated around the room on their own and at the end of the evening they could visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and have their photo taken. For 300 children, their parents, volunteers and members of the Akwesasne Coalition in one room, it was quiet and yet bustling with activity. It was a genuinely enchanting evening that will be part of their childhood memory forever.
