ACCE Ladies Throw 5th Annual Diva Dinner

Last Wednesday night, the Diva Dinner was held at the Seniors Center. It was put on by the ladies of the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment and was part of the National Aboriginal Addiction Awareness week activities. There were lots of prizes and party favors for a few dozen girls. This is the 5th year of the event and this year's theme was "Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it!" The idea of the Diva Dinner was originally thought up by Tsionatiio Laughing.

A delicious meal was served to the girls and they enjoyed a photo booth and other activities to open them up. Then a panel of speakers, Kawenniiosta Jock, Karonhianonha Francis, Olivia Cook, Katsitsionni Fox and Sarah Konwahahawi Herne, answered the question "What would I tell my 15 year old self?" The girls could also ask the panel questions anonymously. Each woman had wonderful advice for the girls.

After the panel spoke, Chelsea Sunday noted how when the ladies talked to and about their younger self, it was not all good, but their experiences made them who they are.
