ALEXANDER BERO

AKWESASNE – Mr. Alexander Bero, age 81, of State Route 37, passed away Monday morning, November 18, 2013 at the Franklin County Nursing Home, where he had been patient since September 17th.

Alexander was born July 13, 1932 in Bombay, the son of the late Peter and Agatha "Harriet" Cole Bero.  He was raised in the St. Joseph's Orphanage in Ogdensburg, before coming back to the reservation and lived with Louis and Anna Lazore and their sons.  He attended schools in Ogdensburg and on the reservation before graduating from Massena High School in 1950.

Alexander worked in various departments at Alice Hyde Hospital and Hepburn Hospital. He later worked as a laborer for various construction companies.  He was a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens and a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church.  Alexander enjoyed resting and relaxing at his cottage on Jacobs Island and also enjoyed tinkering on small engines and outboard motors.  In addition, riding mini-bikes and ATV's and was a "do-it-yourself" gentleman.

He survived by his chosen brothers and their wives, Thomas and Lila, Edward, James and Bernice, and Glenn and Carol Lazore of Akwesasne; many nieces and nephews including his caregiver, Conrad and Kyla Lazore of Akwesasne.  He is also survived by a niece, Susan Stoltz and his foster siblings, Arthur "Kuy" and Susan Deschamps of Dekalb and Sheila Russell of Morristown.

He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Stoltz.

There will be no calling hours.  A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church at a time to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Outreach Program or the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens.
