A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Saturday, November 17, Studio 162 held its second annual fundraiser to benefit the St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House in Canton.
The full service salon and spa's co-owners, Stacy Arquiett and Angela Frost, organized the event as a way to give back to the community. "Last year was our first year in this building so we had a really big open house. We decided that instead of it being about us we wanted to help out the community. We looked at a lot of programs and fell in love with the program at Renewal House in Canton. Last year we raised over $500 and adopted a family of a mom and three children. It was great, we loved every second of shopping for them. It is also something that our children can do with us and learn about giving to others," commented Mrs. Frost.
The event was free of charge and included music by DJ Todd Truax, refreshments and snacks, raffles and auction items. Each of the employees made a basket according to their talent. If one was a cosmetologist then she would fill the basket with hair care products and perhaps a gift certificate for a haircut and style. Other baskets had skin care products, chocolate and photography certificates.
The auction was Chinese style where an attendee could buy an arms length of tickets for $10.00 and deposit them in the basket or baskets of his/her choice. Everyone was also given a free ticket to go towards whatever he/she liked, even the door prize, which was an Adirondack wooden side table donated by Mrs. Arquiett's father-in-law.
The first year for Studio 162 "has been great" said Mrs. Frost. "We have seven employees and its great seeing them all working and busy." Not only does the studio do hair, nails, feet and facials, but also there is also massage therapy, a photography studio as well as exercise classes including belly dancing. Large groups and parties can be accommodated "since we have so many workers and a large space, we can do large groups like bridal parties easily," explained Mrs. Frost. "We have even done a baby shower."
The employees of Studio 162 are Angie Frost (co-owner), Stacy Arquiett (co-owner), Kylie Hazelton (cosmetologist), Jessica Smith (cosmetologist), Christina McCarthy (licensed nail technician and aesthetician), Chelsea Clark (licensed massage therapist), Kathryn Chilton (licensed massage therapist and RN) and Cassie McNeill (Small Shadows Photography).
The exercise program is Tammy Cole (core training), Chantel O'Shaughnessy (core training) and Tammy Dodson (belly dancing).
The turnout for the event was excellent and the lives of the ladies at Studio 162 will be enriched while they make a family's life brighter on Christmas day with their act of kindness and generosity. "It was such a great feeling last year that we wanted to do it again and I think we will keep doing it," said Mrs. Frost.
