A Voice from the Eastern Door
Cst. Rob White, Community Service and Support Officer for AMPS, and Cpl. Cynthia Lord, RCMP Liaison with AMPS, were recently at Kanonhkwatsheri:io to raise awareness about services they offer. They handed out pamphlets on Victim Services of S. D. G. & A., Sexual Assault, Elder Abuse, Streetproofing and more.
"We are community service officers on a daily basis," said Cynthia.
"We do it every day," said Rob.
This year's theme for Crime Prevention Month is "Engaging the Youth." Cynthia and Rob are members of ACCE (Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment), which does monthly events that focus on the youth. They have been involved with every event the Coalition has put on. They will also be involved in the Diva Dinner and Boys Night Out.
Cynthia and Rob are referred by AMPS if someone is a victim of a break in. They are trained in CPTED, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. They perform security audits and suggest how people can make their homes and businesses safer. If they can't directly help, they can always refer them to someone who can. "We rely heavily on our partners in the coalition, we collectively come up with answers," said Cynthia. If you want more information on the services Rob and Cynthia offer, call Akwesasne Mohawk Police Business at 613-575-2340.
