CKON Job Description Experienced Radio Announcer/D.J.

Position: Experienced Radio Announcer

Employment Status: Part-Time

Reports To: Program Manager

Salary: $10.25 per hour (Canadian)

Under the supervision and direction of the Program Manager. This position is part-time with adjusting hours based on the Broadcast schedule. The Announcer/DJ will:

Broadcast all information, programs and music formats in a clear, informative and entertaining manner as prescribed by the Program Manager;

Maintain on-air log.

Answer incoming calls in a professional and courteous manner, and take messages for other staff members as required.

Learn and become proficient in the operation of all on-air studio and production room equipment to maintain the professional on-air standards as prescribed by the Akwesasne Communication Society and CKON Radio;

Produce, script and voice commercials and promotions for CKON programs and events and for CKON advertising clients.

Screen and audition music selections before air play so that music is in good taste;

Become familiar with the music library and content relevant to station format;

Work under the direct supervision of Program Manager with delivery, style and content to improve broadcast quality of shows;

Announcers must abide by all programming sheets and fill them in accordingly. This includes traffic logs for commercials and programming.

Prepare music logs in noting artists and times played to avoid repetition throughout the broadcast day corresponding to announcer’s shift only.

Announcers must present a positive outlook concerning activities within the community and conduct themselves in a professional manner to protect the integrity of the Akwesasne Communication Society and CKON Radio;

Be prepared to cover various air shifts on the on-call basis as required;

Maintain cleanliness of announcer’s booth;

Be available for weekend and evening activities, as required.

Qualifications: High School Diploma (Previous broadcasting experience preferred). Mohawk language considered an asset. Must have good communication skills both written and oral.
