Massena Swim Team Bests Franklin Academy

The Lady Raiders swimmers took down the Lady Huskies on Friday, Oct. 11 with a final score of 65 – 29.

Massena’s Abby Elman, Kalie Peets, Courtnee Stowell, and Sydney Lewis garnered two relay victories each, while Emily Hurlbut walked away with two individual top finishes. Malone’s Rita Mills was credited with first place in two of three events in which her squad finished at the top spot.

The Lady Raiders took first place in the opening event, the 200-meter medley relay. Allison Dix, Elman, Peets, and Stowell combined forces to finish in 2:13.54. Malone’s Itsy Lucia, Kenzie Wilson, Emily Marshal, and Rita Miles trailed behind with a finish time of 2:22.39.

The 200-meter freestyle saw Massena’s Hurlbut finish in 2:17.02, with Tori Merrick finishing closest for Malone at third place in 2:38.02.

Elman took the 200-meter individual medley for the Raiders in 2:46.51; the closest time for the Huskies was Destiny Prue with 2:55.48, getting third place.

Rita Mills captured the 50-meter freestyle for Malone in 27.68. Her teammate Kenzie Wilson tied with Massena’s Baylee Carroll with 27.98 for second place.

In the 100-meter butterfly, Kalie Peets claimed victory in 1:15.84, Malone’s Alexis Herne trailed with 1:48.57.

The Huskies’ Mills took her second top finish of the night in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing her laps in 1:00.70. Massena’s Carroll trailed by one second for second place in 1:01.71.

Hurlbut took the 500-meter freestyle endurance run for the Raiders, completing 20 laps in 6:11.25. Lucia took second place for the Huskies with a 6:49.42 finish.

Carroll, Stowell, Taylor Brault, and Hurlbut teamed up to bring in the top finish in the 20-meter freestyle relay in 1:56.02. Malone’s Mills, Prue, Marshal, and Wilson trailed for second place with 1:57.80.

Allison Dix claimed top honors in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:14.03 with the Huskies’ closest finisher Becca Penera taking a third-place finish in 1:30.40.

Wilson bested the 100-meter breaststroke for the Huskies with a finish time of 1:22.05. Elman trailed by just over a second, clinching second place in 1:23.75.

The day’s final event, the 400-meter freestyle relay, saw Stowell, Lewis, Hurlbut, and Carroll joined forces for a 4:22.83 top finish. Malone’s closest time was Lucia, Sophie Child, Prue, and Marshal with 4:44.34 for third place.
