(Oct 10, 2013) On October 09 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service executed a Controlled Substances Act search warrant on a residence in the village of St. Regis. The search warrant execution was a result of an investigation into the trafficking of Controlled Substances within the community of Akwesasne. Seized during the warrant execution was a quantity of pills, white powdered substance (believed to be cocaine), Canadian and American currency and a loaded handgun. Four people were arrested as a result and were charged with the following offenses.
Dylan David, age 23
Kaylin Hartzig, age 23
Tylar Jacobs, age 24
-Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Controlled Substance
-Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
-Unsafe storage of a firearm
-Abandoning a child by exposing to danger
-Possession of a prohibited device
Dylan David was additionally charged with;
-Possession of Property obtained by crime
Jarius Chrisjohn, age 46, was also charged with;
-Possession of a Controlled Substance
The safety and security of our community is paramount especially when certain drugs are being used by traffickers to poison our young people. “It is very concerning when drugs are being sold from a residence and the police find a loaded handgun in the proximity of where the children sleep and play,’’ said Chief of Police Jerry Swamp.
Detective Sergeant Kariwate Mitchell praised his unit’s work in the investigation. “It’s always a good feeling to know that we are contributing to the community’s safety, our unit has been doing an excellent job in being proactive and gathering intelligence in drug trafficking,’’ said Mitchell.
Mr. Chrisjohn was released on a Promise to appear while the other three who reside at the searched residence were remanded into custody.
