A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Wednesday afternoon, the communications building was Jammin’ for Andy. McDuck, Joe Cal, Don Elston, Terry Terrance and Bob Charlie went live on the air on CKON to pay tribute to their friend Andy White. He has been a musical celebrity in the community for decades, influencing and helping so many, they wanted to lift his spirits.
McDuck, Andy’s son-in-law was on drums. Joe Cal, one of the original Thunder Tones, said, “I’ve been Andy’s sidekick for 60 years.” Don Elston played with the Thunder Tones for a few years starting in 1969. He went between rhythm, bass and drums. Terry Terrace was one of Andy White’s students and plays bass and lead guitar. Bob Charlie is Southern Tutchone from White Horse Yukon and played with the Thunder Tones in the 1970’s. These guys just wanted to give back to a man who has given so much to the community through music, and if you had your radio on 97.3 at 2pm, I’m sure you enjoyed it as much as we think Andy did.
