AKWESASNE – Mr. Howard F. David, age 78, of 984 Island Road, Cornwall Island, passed away late Sunday night, September 8, 2013 on arrival at Cornwall Community Hospital.
Howard was born August 16, 1935 in Cornwall, the son of the late Mark and Sarah Square David. Howard attended school to the 5th grade and started working at an early age. He was an ironworker with Local #765 in Ottawa and also established his ironworking company, Strata Can and Oka Erectors.
Howard was a member of the Tri-District Elders. He enjoyed fishing and watching western movies. Howard was in his glory riding everywhere in his orange Kubota. He was well known for his strawberry garden. His dream was to have a community garden.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Benedict) David, who he married on July 5, 1958 at the Hogansburg Methodist Church; his children, Sara David and Wilma David, both of Cornwall Island, Lisa and David Barclay of Massena, and Dwayne and Khrissy David of Hogansburg; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Big Doda”; his brother, Daniel David of Cornwall Island; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Leslie Faith David on September 10, 1967 and sister-in-law, June David, on May 18, 2002.
Friends called beginning Tuesday, Sept. 10th at his home, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Cornwall Island Methodist Cemetery. The funeral meal will be at Kawehnoke Community Recreation Centre.
