POSITION DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Programs

REPORTS TO: Program Director

FLSA: Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of the cultural and arts programs. Programs in this area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

PREPARE YOUTH FOR SUCCESS

1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

•promote and stimulate program participation;

•participate in new club member orientation process;

•provide guidance and role modeling to members.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

1. Effectively implement and administer Cultural and Art Program services and activities for club members and visitors with a special emphasis on mentoring and creativity.

2. Implement programming in the area of cultural awareness and artistic ability to build on the strengths of the members and to increase their competency while having fun.

3. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Club at all times. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.

SUPERVISION

1. Direct and monitor the duties of designated staff and volunteers

2. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly staff meetings.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

1. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for club members and visitors.

2. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programming and appearance of the Club at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports as requested.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. May participate in special programs and/or events.

2. May be required to drive Club van.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club

members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and

others to assist in resolving problems as directed.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

•Two year degree from an accredited college in education, child development or related discipline.

•Knowledge of software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Access.

•A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization.

•Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.

•Knowledge of basic child and adolescent development and basic knowledge and skills in addressing difficult behaviors and addressing crisis situations.

•Group leadership skills, both verbal and written.

•Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.

•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, community groups, and other related agencies.

•Knowledge and understanding of the Akwesasne community, values, traditions and social norms.

•Ability to teach and lead a classroom environment for various age groups and educational levels.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work includes occasions where special demands may be placed on the Culture and Art Coordinator. The work includes full participation in activities such as; running, climbing, walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying of items and in special situations the restraint of Club members.

The work is performed in office settings, meeting rooms, all Club areas including the outside of the building, recreational areas, parks, boats, vehicles and may include adverse weather conditions.
