Indians Remain Undefeated at Presidents Cup

The Caughnawaga Indians won a pair of games Tuesday to move to 3-0 and sit atop the standings at the Presidents Cup national Senior B championship tournament being held in Kahnawake, Quebec. Seth Oakes led the Iroquois Lacrosse Association champions to a 16-12 win over the Capital Region Axemen in the first game of the day with 5 goals and 2 assists. Mitch Nanticoke and Jeremy Thompson each contributed 3 goals while Jerome Thompson had a goal and 5 assists. Jordan Joncas had 4 goals and an assist, who reached the tournament as the runners up to the host Kahnawake Mohawks in the QSLL. The Indians followed up their morning win by downing the Mohawks 16-10 in the last game of the day, led by Miles Thompson’s 6 goals and an assist. Jerome Thompson (2g, 6a), Lyle Thompson (2g, 5a) and Nanticoke (2g, 4a) each chipped in with big point totals for the Indians. Caleb Wiles was the Mohawks’ top gunner with 4 goals and an assist while Callum Crawford chipped in a goal and 4 assists in the losing effort.

The Ontario champion St. Catharines Saints are also undefeated after two days of the tournament, having dumped the Can Am champion Onondaga Redhawks 12-5 behind Chris Attwood’s second straight 4-goal, 3-assist performance. Dylan Llord added 2 goals and 4 assists for the Saints, who sit at 2-0 and are looking to improve on the bronze and silver medals they’ve won at the last two Presidents Cups.

In the day’s other game, the Rocky Mountain League champion Calgary Mountaineers won their first game of the tournament after a pair of opening-day losses, beating the Axemen 14-10 behind 6 goals and 3 assists from Tyler Melnyk.
