A Voice from the Eastern Door
In a tremendous celebration, the entire community was invited out to celebrate the 60th anniversary of local favorite Bears Den. In a celebration lasting much of the day, a series of activities were available for the community to enjoy. For the kids, of course there were several bouncy houses, a carnival tent with games and you could win a fish by throwing ping pong balls into fish bowls. T-Bear and Cubby were on hand, as well as the Tim Hortons mascot.
Over the course of the day, there were two contests, a donut eating contest and a pie eating contest. Trent Arquette won first place in both. James Arquette placed second in the donut eating contest. Second and third place in the pie eating contest went to Jason Hill and Dallas Caldwell. Everyone got a gift card to Bears Den, and Trent Arquette got a $50 gift card and one of Bears Den’s delicious pies every month for a whole year.
There was a dunk tank that Chief Ron Lafrance Jr. manned and he had a hard time staying out of the water. Seemingly person after person hit the target sending him splashing into the tank. When he was finished, he was worn out, but it was for a great cause because all funds raised were matched dollar for dollar by Tarbell Management Group and all proceeds went to benefit the Diabetes Center of Excellence.
For food there was a chicken barbeque, and Bears Den had steamies and water on sale for 50 cents, as well as what was available from their patio menu.
The Native North American Traveling College Dancers had an exhibition of song and dance. The MC explained the meaning of the songs and dances to the crowd and they showed off their dancing skills. There were a few more shows the dance troop put on before the end of the day too. It was a wonderful day for the whole family courtesy of Bears Den.
