Judith L. Thompson

AKWESASNE – Ms. Judy L. Thompson, age 73, of 84 Racquette Point Road, unexpectedly passed away Friday morning, August 9, 2013 at her home.

Judy was born April 23, 1940 in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Percy and Ethel LaFrance Thompson.  She attended Mohawk schools and Bombay High School.  Judy was a printer for Color Graphics in Buffalo for over 40 years until her retirement.  She returned back to the reservation in 2001.

Judy was an active member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens and the State Road Scrabble Group.  She enjoyed playing cards with her weekly card group and bowling.  She was a naturalist and was active with various environmental groups.  She loved to maintain her lawns and be on the water.  

She is survived by her two half sisters, Edith Brown of Buffalo and Isabel Dorey of Brushton; her special nieces, Penny Allen and Lacey Brown, both of Buffalo; and her dear cousins, Jann and Jeff Day of Akwesasne; Rita LaFrance of Massena; Mary Upell Ashcraft of Virginia; Louise LaFrance of Madrid; and Regis Newton LaFrance of Akwesasne.

She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Thompson on June 30, 2008.

A celebration of her life and memorial meal was be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizen Building.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens or the Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.
