It certainly was a party on Friday at the Snye Rec as the ACFS Summer Program wrapped up with a barbecue, music, waterslide, games and Ironman. This year the Summer Program had almost 70 kids. The kids were split into 6 groups by age and Summer Program Coordinator Danielle Oakes had plenty of help from summer students. Summer high school students were Trulee Herne, Wishe Greene, Tobi-Lee Roundpoint, Tyler Sunday, Lance Jacobs, Waheson Lazore, and Cory Garrow. There were also 2 college students, Jordan Tarbell and Ross Lafrance.
The summer program ran for five weeks and every Wednesday they would go on a field trip. They went to Meacham Lake, cosmic bowling in Malone, the Massena Beach and, what I’m sure was the highlight, to The Great Escape in Lake George. The program featured several presenters from MCA and AMBE. Billie Jo Phillips was ACFS group leader and presenter, Glen Swamp taught the kids about wilderness survival, Brandon David did crossfit and games in the gym, Nancy Lazore did crafts with the kids, Jordan Tarbell did sports and Vickie Horn covered a traditional aspect making cornhusk dolls, cornbread and strawberry drink with the kids, of which the parents were able to sample.
The kids were provided with a morning and afternoon snack and lunch with help from Rachel George from Community Health, and Belinda White and Krysten Delormier working the kitchen.
A big thank you to the Snye Rec from all the kids and parents for sponsoring the two coach buses to Lake George.
