A Voice from the Eastern Door
Dear Monica,
I have three children hoping to go to college and I’ve heard rumors that I can save money on textbooks with the Internet and even attend big name University classes online. Is this true? How does it work?
Signed,

Dear Education Investor,
You will be able to rent or buy digital textbooks in the Google Play store very soon. iBooks also provides digital textbooks for some courses. EdX.org offers free online classes from most every big name prestigious University you can imagine. Khan Academy also provides awesome free online classes. An online search for the specific career training that you are interested in will also help you to compare your choices, pricing, locations, graduate statistics, and more.
Anyone that is hoping to become a software engineer can find thousands of quality online learning resources by searching YouTube and Google. If you go the free do-it-yourself learning route, you will want to plan some of your funds to take certification tests when you are ready. Don’t forget you can also ask our local resources in Akwesasne to provide specific training locally at any of the public computer centers too. Many of our fluent local Kanienkeha speakers, beaders, basket makers, cooks, and others will host weekly classes for small groups at your home if you ask them. Please do provide local teachers with something valuable in return even if they don’t ask, because it’s always a good idea to take good care of our local teachers. Every day is an opportunity to learn and we are very fortunate to have so many awesome and diverse teachers in Akwesasne.
Send your comments and questions about Internet technologies and computers to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to answer you in future stories.
