A Voice from the Eastern Door
Let’s face it, it’s the end of July, we are hearing advertisements for the Franklin County Fair, the Sate Fair and more. Summer is coming to an end and school is just waiting to start all over again. Whether you have a student entering grade 3 or their freshman year at college, a laptop has become an indispensable tool to learn. It’s great for students who play sports - they can work on homework while traveling, in the hotel room or at some point during your weekend on the road for your child’s favorite sport.
Buying a laptop can be overwhelming; how big, how many gigabytes, do I buy insurance for it and where do I buy one that is offering a good deal. You need to decide what you can afford to spend, next you need to think about how you or your child will use this laptop; in their room doing homework, on the road doing homework, or in their dorm or apartment on Facebook, I mean doing homework. How portable do you want this laptop to be? Keep in mind the lighter in weight and thinner the laptop is the more you are going to pay. You are paying for the portability.
For any Apple product you are paying for the name… and the quality. But mostly for the name brand. Apple does deliver on their products as far as quality and portability but they do cost more. Apple is currently offering a $100.00 coupon for accessories in the Apple Store if you buy a laptop or computer. Apple does not do many sales, they do run a sale on Black Friday. Another option is buy a “refurbished” Apple computer or laptop for a great price on the Apple Store online. All refurbished products come with a one-year warranty. Check big box stores (Best Buy right now) to run a sale on Apple computers and laptops, but not very often.
You can look at the big box stores such as Wal-Mart, Target and BJ’s and you will have limited options in choice, but you will find a better price on certain laptops. This is the perfect place to start when buying your first laptop or you have a limited budget. Want more of selection and a person to talk to; check out Best Buy, Office Max, Staples and for a far more personal experience in buying a laptop or computer shop local in Massena or Cornwall. They will offer a real person to talk to and ask questions, service should something go wrong with the laptop and sometimes offer upgrades if you have outgrown your laptop. There are over 30 computer stores between Massena and Cornwall.
You can always shop online on at Amazon.com, eBay or shop directly at Dell, HP, Apple Acer, etc. HP is currently running a “Back to School sale on all laptops.
