Marie L. Jock

AKWESASNE – Mrs. Marie L. Jock, 89, of Sweetflag Estates, Rooseveltown passed away Monday evening, July 15, 2013 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 2nd.

Marie was born January 6, 1924 in Lockport, New York, the daughter of the late Frank and Florence Landow Stapleson.  She graduated from Lyndonville High School in Medina, New York.  On December 2, 1933, she married Ivan P. Jock in Freeport, Long Island.  He predeceased her on April 5, 1991.  

Marie was a cook in various restaurants including the Rainbow at Rooseveltown. She also worked in the soup cannery in Western New York for a short time.  Marie enjoyed going with her daughter, Norma, to the New Life Christian Church in Hogansburg.  She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, and beading fabric calendars.  In addition, Marie loved to feed the hummingbirds, watching other birds, tending to her house plants, traveling and visiting her family around the country, and the beautiful fall sceneries.  She had a great love for life and spending time at the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her eight children, James Jock of Massena; Francis and Linda Jock of Fort Covington; Norma Jock of Hogansburg; Kathy Jock of Hogansburg; Martin and Barbara Jock of Hogansburg; Heidi Jock of Dundee, Quebec; Juanita and Don Shanklin of Montana; and Jerome Jock of Texas; 15 grandchildren, and many great and great, great grandchildren.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Ivan P. Jock; a son Harvey Jock in 1997; and five siblings, William, George, John, Gladys and Mary.

Friends may call Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM with Pastor Willy Jock and Rev. Michael Richards, officiating. Burial will be held privately in Royalton Cemetery, Orleans County.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, or a local Veterans Organization.
