A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Saturday July 13th, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe held special elections for Tribal Chief and Sub-Chief positions. According to results provided by the Tribe, Beverly Cook came up with the win for Tribal Chief, getting a mere 26 more votes than incumbent Randy Hart. For the June 1st elections, according to the SRMT tally sheet, Beverly Cook had only received 376 votes with Randy Hart getting 436. Ms. Cook garnered about 100 more votes in these special elections with a total of 477. And while Mr. Hart got more votes than on June 1st, going from 436 to 451, it was not enough for the win.
Shelley Jacobs retained her position as Sub-Chief in a more pronounced win over second place Debra Martin with 50 more votes, but the gap was narrower than the June 1st election where Shelley won by more than 100 votes.
