A Voice from the Eastern Door
Don’t forget to stop by the Akwesasne Museum (Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm) to see the cornhusk doll exhibit by Elizabeth “Betts” Doxtator, Mohawk, of Six Nations. Many Akwesasronon have been taking the time to see it and are passing along the word that it is a “must-see” for the summer. The basket next to Tsikonsase in the photo was made by Sheila Ransom, who will be teaching children how to make small packs in an upcoming class this summer.
In other news, we have also heard that Betts is constructing a series of small dioramas to depict the Iroquois Creation Story. They will be done for a show at Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ontario in October.
