Harts Victorious In Title Defense

On Saturday, June 22, at the St. Lawrence Center Arena, a mixed martial arts fight was held. Kaged Combat, which bills itself as the Capital Region’s premiere Mixed Martial Arts event, is based in Saratoga Springs and features amateur only events in the state of NY. The fights everyone was there to see were local heroes Derek and Brett Hart defend their titles in the 145 and 155 pound divisions, respectively.

There were a few last minute changes to the lineup, but it was an action filled night. The first fight of the night pitted Joe Rosa and Jose Feliciano against each other with Feliciano winning with a Triangle Choke in round 1. Next up was Devon Slaughtery versus Thomas Flewelling at the 175 division. The ref stopped the fight in the second round, giving Slaughtery the TKO. The first Title fight of the night was Derek Hart defending his title in the 145 division against challenger Brendan Kalijundic. Hart won with a submission by Rear Naked Choke in round one.

After intermission, action continued with the next title fight. John Burwell challenged Devan Hildebrandt, who won with a TKO in round 1 earning the title in the 185 pound class. Next up was Matt Boyce fighting in place of Sheldon Cole against DJ Hunsdon. The ref stopped the fight in the first round after some brutal slams and Boyce not actively defending himself. The final fight of the evening was Brett Hart’s title defense against Cody Comer. Hart went the distance against Comer, he said, “it was the toughest fight of my career.” Hart won by unanimous decision.

The next Kaged Kombat fight will be held in Saratoga Springs on July 13, 2013. For tickets and more information call 518-248-2080
