A Voice from the Eastern Door
Akwesasne, NY (June 17, 2013) Every second and fourth Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8pm, Akwesasne Toastmasters meet at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino HR Building to work on leadership and public speaking projects. The public is also welcome to attend and see how Akwesasne Toastmasters can help to achieve personal and career goals in a friendly, professional, supportive setting.
The executive team for 2013 was voted in and includes Patrick Kelly, President; Justin Cree, VP Education; Maryellen Cooke, VP Membership; Monica Peters, VP Public Relations; Ann Bush, Secretary; Tyler Cook, Treasurer; and Phil White, Sergeant at Arms.
Each summer, a new executive team is nominated and the club members vote. It’s another valuable experience for members to participate in formal elections, voting, and working with the members and executive team to complete leadership and public speaking projects. When a Toastmasters workbook is completed, a formal letter is sent to the member’s employer and the club members work together to plan and host a celebration to congratulate the member on their accomplishment. The Toastmaster also receives new workbooks that are more advanced than the previous workbooks they completed. Toastmasters can pick and choose their own learning pace and projects whenever they wish and work as slow or fast as they want. Some Toastmasters focus on their leadership skills, others focus on their public speaking skills, and many work on both at the same time.
Toastmaster clubs are found everywhere in the world and each one is unique while still following the guidelines that ensure members are receiving positive support to learn and improve their own professional skills.
