A Voice from the Eastern Door

SRMS Student Appreciation Day 2013

On Friday, the St. Regis Mohawk School held its Student Appreciation Day. This was the fourth year they have done an Appreciation Day to such a large scale. There were several community programs at the school including Let’s Get Healthy, ACDP, Tribal Police, Environment and more. There were also several vendors and stations like the Clarkson STEM Robot program and Bonesteels.

Principal Sharlee Thomas said a new addition this year was the focus on college. They have had a feature college each month all year and at the Appreciation Day students got a visit from the SUNY Potsdam Bear and the SUNY Canton Kangaroo. There were also several college student volunteers at the event. The party also included several water slides and bouncy houses, wagon rides, a dance party and a popcorn and snow cone station.

The Appreciation Day is sponsored by the SRMS PTO and Ellen Cook, President of the PTO and Home-School Coordinator, plays a major role in the organization of the event. Principal Thomas personally thanked her for all her hard work to make the event a success. She also acknowledged the custodial staff and how they go out of their way to make this day great. She said, “I couldn’t ask for a better staff.”

Parents were invited to attend, and there was a great turnout. Principal Thomas summed the day up saying, “The students and staff work hard all year. We want to celebrate their hard work.”
