SRCS Boys Lacrosse Shut Down Potsdam

The SRCS boy’s varsity lacrosse ended its 2013 regular NAC season with a perfect undefeated record of 14-0 in front of hometown fans as they defeated Potsdam, 18-7. As with all last home games in the regular season it was also time to honor the graduating seniors. Salmon River will be graduating eight seniors from this team.

Potsdam struck first early in the first quarter but Salmon answered back to even things 1-1. Potsdam rallied and scored two goals to put the Sandstoners ahead 3-1. Coach Jim Barnes called a time out and sparked the Shamrocks to pull even at 3-3 by the end of the first quarter.

In the second frame, Salmon River hit the field running and fired off four goals to go ahead 8-3. Potsdam put one in to end the half at 8-4. At this time Seniors Francis Jacobs, Braiden Sunday, Randy Peters, Kyle Green, Naylen Laffin, Dalston Day, Brady Mitchell, Kobi Johnson and scorekeepers Autumn Mitchell and Nicole Smoke and families, were honored by Coach Jim Barnes.

In the third frame the Shamrocks put the game out of reach for Potsdam as they continued their assault by scoring five goals at the beginning, and then two more at the end to bring the score to 15-6. Three goals were scored in the fourth by the Shamrocks to give them the 18-7 win.

Dalston Day (5 assists) and Skylar Thomas (2 assists) led the Shamrock scoring with four goals apiece while Kason Tarbell and Russ Oakes tallied three goals each. Lakota Square (2 assists), Sky Sunday (1 assist), Trenton Tarbell, and Karonhiate Lazore added singletons to round out the scoring for SR.

Kyle Grant led the Sandstoners with four goals and teammate Stephan Lewis added two goals and a helper. Sam Woods chipped in a solo goal. Garrett Kilgore connected for three assists while Hayden Hart had a solo helper.

Kobi Jackson (8 saves) and Randy Peters (7 saves) shared goalkeeping duties for the Shamrock win. Jason Cardinal had 9 saves for the Sandstoners.

The Salmon River Shamrocks now set their sights on advancing to the State playoffs, which begin this week.
