ABGC Clean Up Day Gets Boost From Alcoa

The Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club held their annual clean up day on Saturday and it was gorgeous outside. The clean up day is done every year but this year the ABGC received an ACTION grant from Alcoa, which stands for Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods grant. The Alcoa Foundation, the non-profit arm of Alcoa, recognizes volunteer efforts with a $3,000 donation to a charity. First an Alcoa employee must champion an event, which means initiate it and get at least 10 other Alcoa employees to volunteer. The ABGC clean up day had 2 champions, Nanci Ransom and Sharon Cree, who recruited about 12 employees to come out to help. Alcoa employees were joined by border patrol agents who also donated their time. Volunteers were doing everything from putting down mulch, planting, mixing cement to repair fences, painting and cleaning out sheds. Executive Director of ABGC Jessica Cree-Jock said, “I was extremely excited and thankful for all the volunteers that showed up, from Alcoa, Border Patrol, ABGC Board Members and staff, together we were able to make necessary improvements to better serve our youth! Thanks again to all that helped!!”
