The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission is submitting an announcement to community members within the jurisdiction of Akwesasne. There is currently a vacancy for a three (3) year term as a Police Commissioner to represent the district of Kana:takon.
In accordance with the Akwesasne Mohawk Policing Agreement and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission Charter, all interested residents of Kana:takon are asked to submit a letter of interest, no later than Friday, March 22, 2013 by 4pm.
To qualify for appointment to the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission, a person must:
•Be a registered member or immediately entitled to be registered as a member of Akwesasne under the Akwesasne Membership Code (does not include probationary members);
•Be twenty-one (21) years of age or older;
•Possess good character, credibility and reputation in the Akwesasne community;
•Not have a criminal record relating to an indictable offense in Canada or a felony in the United States;
•Submit to a Letter of Disclosure and a criminal record check (CPIC),
•Reside in the district from which they are appointed;
•Not be an officer or civilian employee of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service;
•Not have been removed from office pursuant to Section 16 of the Charter within the past five (5) years.
Each member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission will hold their seat for a term of three (3) years, except for the District Chief(s), who shall not serve longer than their term on Council. A member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission may be reappointed to their seat by Council resolution.

•That they fulfill the above listed qualifications
•A brief description of your previous involvement in community affairs
•A summary of your reasons you wish to become an Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commissioner
