St. Regis Mohawk School Sends 4 Girls to All-County Music Festival

On Saturday, February 2, the Franklin County Music Educators Association held their annual All-County Music Festival, which was hosted by Salmon River Central School. The festival, which is comprised of schools from all over the county, included the Salmon River Central and St. Regis Mohawk Schools. SRMS contributed 5 girls, with 4 performing. The girls, prided on their vocal abilities for such a young age, are: Keera Oakes, Macy David, Irelyne Tarbell, and Libbie Tarbell. Autumn Benedict was slated to perform, but was replaced by Keera Oakes.

The girls practiced before the concert at their own schools, and extensively for two days, beginning Friday from 9am until 3pm, and Saturday from 9am until 2:00pm, just before the concert. The girls had to then get ready, getting dressed and hair and makeup done in the girls locker room. All ready to shine, they entered the auditorium and lined up with their fellow choir-mates and performed “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “In That Great Gettin’ Up Morning” and “Movin’ On” and “The Rhythm of Life.”

Macy David said, “It was a much bigger deal than I thought, and I am glad I got to go there with my friends.”

Keera Oakes said of the experience, “I didn’t think it would be that amazing, singing in front of people, but it was amazing. I am proud of myself to get into all-county chorus.”

The girls were obviously very excited, posing for many photos after their show.

There were also performances from other Salmon River Akwesasronon, vocal performances as well as band performances. In all, the effort was remarkable, and they all deserve recognition.

The concert was professionally recorded, and information about copies of the performance can be obtained from Salmon River Central School.
