A Voice from the Eastern Door
Winners of the Empire BlueCross Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge have been announced. An effort between Empire and Radio Disney AM 1460, Get Active, Get Fit motivates kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities. In order to successfully complete the challenge, students had to be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days during the event, which ran from Oct. 1, 2012 through Nov. 24, 2012. In 2012, the third year of this partnership, 20,626 children from 58 elementary schools in upstate New York registered for the program.
The St. Regis Mohawk School participated in the Walk Across America challenge from Radio Disney’s Get Active, Get Fit. The students walked at least 5 laps around the gymnasium after breakfast. All grade levels participated with 62% of the student body completing the challenge.
Kathy Valancius (Physical Education teacher) submitted the information and the St. Regis Mohawk School won!! They have received approximately 100 pieces of free gym equipment and will have a 60 minute show performed by Radio Disney. The assembly will take place Monday, February 11 at 9:00-10:00 in the gymnasium.
Principal Thomas would like to thank Mr. LaVack and Mrs. Valancius for all of their planning and hard work. She would like to especially thank Kathy for keeping track of the miles the students completed and submitting all of the information.
