Canton Edges Salmon River 53-45

Fort Covington - The Salmon River Girls Varsity Basketball team fell short to the Canton Golden Bears 53-45.

The 1st quarter started off slowly with both Salmon River and Canton exemplifying their strong defenses, with Salmon River getting on the board first. The Golden Bears quickly reacted with their own 2 points to start the back and forth scoring between the two teams.

The 2nd quarter started off the same as the first with no team ever falling more than 2 points below the other. The teams continued scoring, heading into halftime with a score of 25-24.

With the start of the 3rd quarter, Salmon River played more consistent offense while adapting to the Golden Bears’ strengths and weaknesses. The Golden Bears reacted with their own style of offense and defense to counter the Shamrocks style of play while building a lead with Emily Rexford’s 2 3-pointers.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the Golden Bears played conservative to help keep their lead secure. The Shamrocks reacted to this style of play by pushing strong on offense and defense but still fell short of taking the lead.

Emily Rexford led all scorers with her 3 3-pointers and 32 points, while Tori Daley contributed 9 points for the Canton offense. Abby Kelly and Kwiio King both chipped in 14 points for the Shamrocks.
