A Voice from the Eastern Door
On December 29 at the Anowara’ko:wa Arena, the Akwesasne Wolves and the Morrisburg Lions squared off in a game that was rife with seemingly steady trips to the box, as seems to be the norm between these two teams because they don’t like each other. The first period was nearly scoreless, but Sylvester Bzdyl scored deep in the first, with 3 seconds left. Bzdyl was assisted by Michael Paquette and Chris Rutley. No one scored in the second period as both goalies were too tough, allowing Morrisburg to hold onto their lead, but there were no shortage of penalties for either team. It was the three amigos who cinched the game for Akwesasne in the third. With Oakley Thomas getting the goals, scoring at 13:53 and 4:59, and his amigos, Dom Coyle and Vance Thompson backing him up on both goals. Akwesasne took the game and sent Morrisburg with another mark in the L column. Morrisburg couldn’t convert any of its 10 power plays into goals. Morrisburg also had more shots on goal than Akwesasne 41-33.
