A Voice from the Eastern Door
Stacy Skidders, 47, was found to be in possession of $11,250 worth of untaxed cigarettes while attempting to enter Canada through the Cornwall point of entry on July 21. According to Jane Collins, Salmon River Superintendent of Schools, herself and the board had no knowledge of the arrest. According to a story in the Daily-Courier, Skidders had submitted a letter, resigning from the position of Salmon River School Board President, on Dec. 21 and does not mention in the letter anything about charges against her, explaining instead about new education and/or employment opportunities.
On November 8, Skidders was sentenced to six months of house arrest after admitting to violating the Customs Act and the Excise Act of 2001. On Monday night, the Salmon River board held an executive session and voted Judith Stark the new board president, a meeting that is now receiving scrutiny for its legality.
