A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Social Services Program hosted an Angel Tree as a way in which to provide gifts for the children in our programs under Social Services (Preventive, Foster Care, Child Protective Services, Intensive Preventive Program, Akwesasne Group Home and the Three Sisters program). This year they received over 140 names of children from all combined programs. This past holiday season they set up a tree with the ages and gender of all of the children in our programs. Employees of the Tribe picked an ornament off of the tree and purchased gifts. The Human Resource Department of the Tribe also hosted a benefit breakfast and used the proceeds to buy gifts for many of the children listed on the tree. As well, several local businesses were approached asking for their help.
On behalf of the Social Services programs they would like to express a sincere NIAWEN:KOWA to the following for their help in making this year’s Angel Tree a tremendous success:
The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino solicited donations from patrons for our program.
Carey and Ashley Terrance (Twinleaf) bought gifts for our children.
Bears Den Family and Staff bought gifts for our children.
ICWA purchased gift wrapping supplies.
The community volunteers who helped to wrap the gifts.
John Francis (C&B Enterprises) for letting us utilize his cube van for storage and transport of gifts.
Derek Cook for donating his time to transport gifts for us.
The girls at the DSS/CPS building for helping to organize and deliver the gifts to the children.
