A Voice from the Eastern Door
This past weekend we held our Annual Christmas Enchantment Fundraiser and it was a huge success, seeing many people not only from our community but from surrounding communities as well.
We would like to thank everyone who came to see our beautiful display of Trees, everyone did an excellent job decorating their trees, and we received many compliments on how nice everything looked. The decorators started putting the trees up on Sunday and returned daily to ensure the trees were perfect before the doors opened on Friday morning. On Friday morning the Students from Tsi Snaihne and Kanatakon came in for a special previewing and were served milk and cookies. Unfortunately, Santa was too busy to stop in and see the students, hopefully next year he can make it or send some elves to visit the students. At noon the Elders of the Community were invited for lunch and were served Corn Soup and Biscuits and also previewed the trees and five lucky Elders won two books of tickets for finding pickles in the trees. Finally at 3:00 p.m. on Friday the doors opened to the public and the place was busy throughout the weekend.
We also had Craft Vendors all weekend and a full concession, Mohawk Auction, Memorial Tree and the Secret Santa Shop. The Recreation will be donating part of the profits made from this fundraiser to the following organizations Tsi Snaihne, Kanatakon, AMS and Freedom Schools, St. Regis Mohawk School PTO, Station #3 and Iakhihsohtha Volunteer Fund.
Thanks to all our very dedicated volunteers who make this event possible every year, plans are already underway to make improvements for next year. We already have over a dozen trees for next year; if you are interested in donating a tree, next year or would like information on doing a tree please feel free to contact the Snye Recreation at (613) 575-2496 and leave a message.
From the Snye Recreation Committee we would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year! Niawen:Kowa for your continued support!
