ACFS Celebrates National Childs Day With Rock and Skate

In recognition of National Childs Day ACFS held a Rock and Skate at the Anowarakowa Arena. Over 80 people attended both children and adults. They provided over 20 door prizes and the two biggest were the air hockey tables. National Childs Day is actually an international event. Akwesasne Child and Family Services hold an event every year to celebrate the children in our community. This was another drug and alcohol free event in partnership with the Anowarakowa Arena. There were some ice games done with the children as well as positive affirmation stars they could make, and it captured what “they are great at?” “I am special because?” and “ I feel proud of myself when..?” This was an activity done with Tracey Cook and the stars the children made are posted at ACFS offices.

ACFS does these activities to recognize and show appreciation for the youth in the community. The coordinators of this event were Catherine Papineau and Danielle Oakes. They would like to thank all those who helped make this a success: Billie Jo Phillips, Tazz Oakes, Tekaritha and Sose George, Mamie David, Jimmy Hemlock and the staff at Anowarakowa Arena. There were DJ services provided by Terrance Music Entertainment, Aaron Terrance, he did an awesome job entertaining the children. Supper was provided including pizza, wings and salad from Brass Horse, and sub platters from Subway. ACFS appreciates all the help with the large food orders and involvement from local businesses, and they appreciate all who came and enjoyed this event. The event was success and all those who attended gave wonderful reviews. Congratulations to all of the winners from the door prize drawings. Danielle Oakes said, “We can’t wait to see you all again next year!”
