Salmon River and Massena Claim Volleyball Titles

It was an exciting night last week at the SUNY Canton fieldhouse when Salmon River and Massena girls volleyball teams became Section 10 Champions.

Salmon River started off the night taking on the Potsdam Sandstoners with the Lady Sandstoners winning the first game with a score of 25-16. The Lady Shamrocks regrouped and went to work to win the next three games with scores of 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.

Senior Jackie Benedict led the Shamrocks with 13 service points, five kills, and two aces. Kasennakohe David followed as she worked the net for 14 kills, nine points and five aces. Cassie Boardway tallied eight points, three aces and two kills, while Raven Oakes chipped in eight points. Nicole Smoke (7 assists, 5 kills) and Kaitlyn Pickering added five points each.

The Lady Shamrocks were re-crowned the Class C Champions.

Massena was in the hunt for the Class B Crown as they met the Malone Huskies. The Lady Raiders went right to work and never let up until they swept all three games with scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-19.

Tristan Thomas set the ball 37 times and posted 15 assists and five points. Krista Loran (4 kills) and Sidney Thompson each contributed eight service points. Janisa Benedict and Samantha Villnave worked the net for five kills apiece. Benedict also added four blocks and six service points while Villnave tallied another seven service points.

Both teams will travel back to Canton on Thursday, November 9 at 4:00 p.m. to play each other. The winner will take on the undefeated Chateaugay Bulldogs for the Section 10 Overall Championship title.
