While on patrol on October 31, at approximately 5:16 p.m., the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service observed a man walking in Kanatakon, Quebec. He was known to police to be a “previous deportee” under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Subject was taken into police custody.

In February 2012, Police were advised of a Domestic Assault, which had occurred in December of 2011 at a residence in Tsi Snaihne, Quebec. The accused in this incident was the man arrested on the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act charge. Therefore his name cannot be revealed so as to protect the identity of the victim. Subject was not immediately apprehended at the time of the complaint since he was in custody in the United States. Subject was arrested on the following charges: Assault, Forcible Confinement, 2 counts of Uttering Threats, and Mischief Under $5000.00, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

On November 2nd at approximately 8:04 p.m., Central Dispatch was advised of an accident on Kawehnoke, Ontario. A motor vehicle being driven eastbound on Island Road had struck an elderly woman traveling in her electric wheelchair. The woman was transported to the Cornwall Community Hospital suffering minor injuries.

The motor vehicle was seized for forensic analysis.

The matter is still under investigation, and charge(s) may be pending.

In the late evening of October 23, 2012, Central Dispatch received a call of two persons lying on the roadway on Island Road West that had been hit by a motor vehicle. The injured male subject was identified as Greg David, Jr. and the injured female was identified as Tammy David, both of Kawehnoke. The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene and through investigation it was determined that the operator was Johnny Lee Adams, 25 years of age, of Tsi Snaihne, Quebec.

On October 24, a Warrant for Adams’ arrest was issued for “Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident” contrary to Section 252 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Adams attended the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Station and “turned” himself in to police. He was released from Ontario Provincial Court in Cornwall, Ontario on November 1, 2012.

His next Court date is on November 27, 2012.

DWAI DRUGS

Massena, NY - Brian M. White, 32, of 183 Racquette Point Rd, Hogansburg, was charged by Massena-based state police with driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Mr. White was found unconscious, but uninjured, after crashing into the curb in front of Moto Sports World on State Route 56 in Massena at 2:08 p.m. Wednesday. He was sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, also having a preexisting warrant.

GRAND LARCENY

Massena, NY - Richard L. Benedict, 31, of 112 Frogtown Road, Hogansburg, was charged by Massena Village police with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony. He allegedly shoplifted a 26-inch screen television, a SONY surround system and cat food from Walmart. Benedict was released on an appearance ticket.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION

Massena, NY - O’Donald B. Laffin, 24, of Hogansburg was charged by Massena-based state police with unlawful possession of marijuana and ticketed for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following an incident at 9 p.m.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION

Fort Covington, NY - Bradley M. Mulverhill, 17, of Hogansburg was charged by Malone-based state police with unlawful possession of marijuana following a traffic stop at 8:05 p.m. Friday on state Route 37.

WINTER PARKING

RESTRICTIONS

 

Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to remind the residents of the City of Cornwall of the winter parking restrictions. The winter parking restrictions begin on November 15th, 2012 until March 31st, 2013 between 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on all City streets.

 The parking By-law allows for extended parking hours of 2:00 a.m. for establishments in the business sectors of the City. Please refer to the City of Cornwall webpage at http://www.cornwall.ca  for specific streets.

 Failure to comply with this parking by-law will result in a $25.00 fine.
