Notice to the Community

This is to inform the community that the following persons have applied for Akwesasne Membership under the Akwesasne Membership Code:

Julie Lamarche (age 17) and Eric Lamarche (age 15), children of Pamela Jock (Akwesasne) and Paul Lamarche, a non-Indian.

Jay Montour Jr. (age 4), son of Courtney Angus (Akwesasne) and Jay Montour (Kahnawake)

Rahonkwatsherehawi George (age 11), Tekaritha George (age 13) and Neil George (age 17), children of Catherine Papineau (Akwesasne) and Webster George (Oneida Nation of the Thames)

Vaughn Doxtator (age 7) and Talon Doxtator (age 10), children of Kristy Lauzon (Akwesasne) and Timothy Doxtator (Oneida Nation of the Thames)

Mary Wanatee (age 9), daughter of Laura Benedict (Akwesasne) and Josh Wanatee (Onondaga)

Arie Francis-Harris (age 3), son of Owen Francis (Akwesasne) and Willianne Harris (Big Island Lake Cree)

Dalston Day (age 18), son of Victoria Day (Akwesasne) and James MacLeod, a non-Indian.

Moriah Delormier (age 7), Laila Delormier (age 7) and Tianna Delormier (age 11), children of Nathan Delormier (Akwesasne) and Melissa Menzies, a non-Indian.

Savannah Delormier (age 11), Donovan Delormier (age 10), Kyla Delormier (age 8), Mia Delormier (age 6) and David Delormier (age 3) children of David Delormier (Akwesasne) and Julie Ellis, a non-Indian.

Kelsey Poitras (age 17) daughter of Steven Gale (Akwesasne) and Amanda Clement, a non-Indian

The Akwesasne Membership Board will consider the following criteria to determine if these applicants will be granted full Akwesasne Membership under the Membership Code.

a) Whether the applicant was born in the community

b) Commitment to Mohawk culture, traditions, lifestyle, and knowledge of language and customs

c) Individual or family ties to Members of the community

d) Member of a Clan

e) Degree of involvement in the affairs of the community

f) Reasons for wanting to be a member

This is the same criteria that is used for applications for Probationary Membership, as contained in Section 11 of the Akwesasne Membership Code.

The following persons have applied for Probationary Membership:

Jay Montour (age 42), son of Kakwirakeron Montour (Kahnawake) and Sandra (Dawber) Jacobs, a non-Indian.

Harlow (Johnson) Homer (age 48), son of the late Cecelia Johnson (Akwesasne) and the late Peter Homer (Oneida Nation of the Thames)

Community Members have until Friday, November 9, 2012 to indicate whether they wish to make submissions regarding the above applicants by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics located at the Cornwall Island Administration Building #3, at (613) 575-2250 ext. 1011 for more information

At the Akwesasne Membership Board meeting of October 13, 2012, the Membership Board granted full Akwesasne Membership to Tyler Thompson-Douglas, and Probationary Membership to Regina Pierce.  The Board cancelled the Membership applications of Brandon Shenandoah and David Colon.  Community members wishing to appeal the Membership Board’s decisions on the above applicants have 30 days to appeal to the Council of Elders.

Furthermore, the Board granted a one year residency permit to Francis Ingle and James Iserhoff. Community members wishing to appeal the Membership Board’s decision on his Residency Permit application have until October 13, 2012 (10 days) to submit an appeal to the Council of Elders.
