A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Akwesasne Wild Co-ed Hockey team took the Championship in the Droppin’ the Gloves on Cancer Tournament held at Clarkson this past weekend. The Wild was put together by the efforts of Denise Thompson, Diane Lazore and Leighann McDonald. With players from Akwesasne and a couple from Kahnawake and Cornwall they threw a team together looking to have fun for a good cause and surprisingly went undefeated in the tournament. The Wild faced Massena Savings and Loan Saturday morning to win with a score of 11-3. They picked up the second win later in the morning with a 4-1 win over Team Rose from Potsdam. Sunday morning they went on to play St. Hilaire from Montreal which proved to be the most aggressive team, but the Wild pulled through with a 6-3 win, leading them to the Championship game Sunday afternoon. Once again they faced Savings and Loan from Massena and pulled off another 6-3 win!
