Hometown Rockers Arcane Belief Up For Nominations at the Nammy’s

Hometown rockers, Arcane Belief, are possibly up for 6 awards at this year’s Native American Music Awards, which will be held at the Seneca Niagara Hotel & Casino on November 30th. I had a chance to sit down with Arcane Belief’s lead guitarist and band spokesman Lawrence “Buck” Cook in between song breaks at CKON where he is the Night DJ. I have to say it is amazing how fluidly Buck moves from answering a question, to radio announcing, and then back to the question, all seemingly without a breath in between. It can be said with little surprise the Buck and company; Cory White on rhythm guitar, piano, and songwriter (Cory Jacobs, on bass guitar and lead vocals; and finally Duane Greenfield on drums) are ecstatic at their opportunity and possible presence at the Native American Music Awards. Arcane Belief is up for nomination consideration in the following categories:

Record of the year

Debut Duo or Group of the Year

Best Rock Recording

Song/Single of the Year x 2 for Traveling Man and Grounded

Speaking about their two songs, Traveling Man and Grounded, Buck said, “Traveling man, like I’ve always said, is like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan had a baby, which would be an ugly baby. (Traveling Man is) like listening to ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ and going straight to ‘Patience.” Buck added, “It all applies, and to pick out two songs from the CD, I felt that “Traveling Man” and “Grounded” were really good, because for me, and actually for a lot of the guys, grounded is one of our favorite tracks. I mean we love them all, but “Grounded” is one of those tracks that came along effortlessly. It’s one of those songs that came through pretty easily, with the chemistry, you know organically.”

In addition Cory White is also up for nomination consideration in the Songwriter of the year category, and Josh Dugan, as Producer of Wrong Side of Salvation.

Throughout the course of the interview we talked about all sorts of things but one of the stories he told about the touring they did was pretty neat.

Speaking about touring Buck said, “We played this show in Missouri, which was mainly Metal Bands and us, and so we got up there, and we did our thing, and a lot of people liked it. We’re playing ‘Traveling Man,’ our softest song on the CD, and there’s some Goth girl, it looks like she fell down the stairs holding a tackle box, she had all these piercings all over her face, and she’s just sitting there and (makes swaying motion) in front of the stage, just right into it. All right! OK! You know it was really great feeling. A lot of people came up and wanted to know more about us, where we’re from, when our CD comes out. At that time the CD wasn’t out yet.”

On the possibility of Nammy nominations, Arcane Belief submitted their work into six categories, and now the voting is taking place to find the nominees for this year’s Native American Music Awards. In order to cast a vote head over and sign up at http://nativeamericanmusicawards.com/votenow.cfm

In closing, Buck said, “We’re looking forward to it, we’re excited about it, and of course we are looking well beyond this, too. We are looking to expand, playing more, and have a nice busy winter. We do thank everyone for their support. We appreciate how you feel about us today, just wait for our tomorrow.”

Good Luck Guys!
