A late first half goal was all the Red Raiders needed to go home with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Shamrock soccer squad.
Massena’s Robert Cameron finished off a play set up by Dylan Stone to score the only goal of the game.
Salmon’s goalie Zach Smith worked the crease and saved 11 shots. Ian Wilson earned the shutout for the Raiders.
The win improves the Red Raider overall record to 4-2-4 while the Shamrocks record is 1-5-2.
Later in the week Salmon River hosted Franklin Academy in a game that had been previously postponed due to bad weather.
FA’s Aaron Sharlow scored once in the first half and then in the second to lead the Huskies to a 2-0 victory over the Shamrocks.
“We came out flat in the first half and Malone was able to capitalize on this. We have had this problem all season and teams are taking advantage of it,” commented first year varsity coach Ben Barkley. “In the second half we played much better soccer by keeping the ball on the ground, working it around the field and retaining possession. You can’t win if you don’t possess the ball.”
“I felt our midfield played really well today. We just can’t seem to find the right combination up front to put the ball in the net,” continued Barkley. “There is still more than half of the season left to turn things around.”
Shamrock goalie, freshman Zach Smith, made several spectacular saves in net as he turned aside 22 shots from the Huskies.
