PAUL REDMAN HERNE

March 13, 1923 – October 7, 2012 Age 89

Paul is survived by his daughter, Sue Ellen Herne and stepson, Glenn Allen Hill, Sr. (Sheila); his grandchildren, Levi and Logan Herne; Colleen Mitchell (William); Melissa Malasmas (Glenn); Glenn Hill, Jr. (Carrie); and Taylor Hill; his aunt, Mae Tarbell; and his brother, Thomas Vernon Herne (Antonia).   He is also survived by his two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Terrance and Richard Peters; sister-in-law, Gisela Herne; great grandchildren, Rain, Caeleigh, Ansley, Miley, Ellie, Emmalin; and Jonah; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 He was predeceased by his wife, Ellene Mary (White) Herne, who he married on December 9, 1964 in Bombay, on October 26, 2010; his parents, Mose and Katie Herne; his siblings, Johnnie, Catherine, Beulah, Jean, Martha, William, Julius, and Arthur.  

 Paul was a veteran of WW II, US Army (Pacific).  While stationed in Hartford, CT, guarding the Pratt-Whitney aircraft factory, he rescued many civilian victims of the Hartford Circus Fire.  He was a retired ironworker, who had resumed work after a fall in 1975 in Brockville, Ontario.  He also worked in lumber camps and enjoyed fishing as a young man and remained active for his whole life.  He enjoyed yard work and making birdhouses.  

 He passed away Sunday afternoon, October 7th, in his garage while working on one of his many building projects.  As per Paul’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Family and friends are invited to his home on Saturday, October 13th, 10:00 AM for the scattering of his ashes.
