A Voice from the Eastern Door
These days just about everyone has been affected in some way by cancer. Last Saturday a group of student-athletes were able to pay tribute to those whose lives have been cut short because of this disease.
Massena Central was the host for Volley for a Cure: Kate’s Team Tournament. “The tournament was a huge success. The teams donated a total of $1,210.00, which was presented to Mr. and Mrs. O’Shaughnessy. The money will be given to Cancer Research in memory of their daughter Kate. Katie was an outstanding volleyball player for Massena High School and will always be remembered for her skills, sportsmanship and team leadership,” commented Massena coach Mary Arcadi. Each participating team raised money for the cause.

“Janisa Benedict and Tristan Thomas were among the many All-Stars honored at the tournament. Each and every Massena player should be commended for their outstanding play, team effort and sportsmanship on Saturday. It was truly a team effort and they all deserve recognition,” said Arcadi.
Arcadi also expressed her gratitude for everyone who helped make this day a success. “The parents, modified players, coaches, Dunkin’ Donuts, Great Northern Printing, Angelina Converse and MCHS Athletic Director were all such a great help! None of this would have been possible without their donations and hard work. Thanks!
