A Voice from the Eastern Door
Dear Editor
About a month ago my mother’s truck got stolen. The Tribal Police didn’t even investigate or take our statements. The police, Ted Cook, said there was nothing they could do; we had to find our own truck. Ted kept saying “it was a family member” but we called them all, before we even went to report it, and no one had a clue.
After driving to a local tow truck business we found it at Alvin Jocks. Alvin said, “It was an older man that called,” he was getting everything changed and fixed.
After, we gave the cops the information and they didn’t even investigate more into it. Ted said he would call us back after they got a name so we could go in and make a statement and to see what we wanted to do. They never called.
My brother talked to Alvin. Alvin said the cops never contacted him and now he changed his story saying it was a younger male.
Ted keeps saying he did talk to Alvin! Alvin said he’s still waiting for Ted’s call. Now Ted said we were supposed to call that next Monday so he closed our case. He never said that, we were waiting by the phone for his call.
It turned into a he-said/she-said thing. What are they hiding? Who are they protecting?
We called in the State Police to do the Tribal’s job for them but they said they can’t overpower the Tribals; why are they on the Rez then?
Ted Cook basically said, “you found your truck what more do you want?” What about justice? Ain’t that their job? We cannot get the truck back because the police didn’t release it and now there are repairs that we didn’t ask for and can’t pay for.
All that needed to be done was for them to do their jobs and it seems like I was asking for way too much.
