Soaring Eagles and Cultural Hotinonhson:ni Youth Group Summer Program Ends

Akwesasne Soaring Eagles volleyball club and the Hotinonhson:ni Cultural Youth Group combined their time and efforts in this year’s summer program for the community of Akwesasne. This opportunity happened when the two clubs applied for summer student employees through the Akwesasne Area Management Board and administration was sponsored by the Kawehnoke Recreation. Soaring Eagles was granted a program manager Elysia Koostachin, staff assistance Jaden Barnes, Logan Francis-Mitchell, Janisa Benedict and Kuylin Chaussi. The Hotinonhson:ni cultural youth group summer program manager was Maegan Thomas and the assistant was Kyla Thompson.

Each individual provided something special to the summer program. They were involved in organizing the attendance of thirty athletes to the July 5th -13th Quebec games, sand court volleyball leagues, community volleyball tournament, Aboriginal National volleyball championships, Cultural presentations at the War Museum in Ottawa, Summer Solstice in Ottawa, Seneca Casino, Kateri Conference in Albany, and the NNATC Friendship Days.

The whole summer program experience was fun and a learning experience for everyone.
